My KINDER BABY HAS TO READ????
Reading Strategies
Your child will participate in Guided Reading groups everyday. These are small groups where I will teach 5 - 6 students reading. I will teach your child strategies to use when they come to a tricky word. Below is a list of the strategies that I am teaching your child this year.
Figuring out tricky words
Get your mouth ready - Student should point to the first letter of the word and say the beginning sound
Check the Picture
Talk about what is going on in the story - ask your child questions about the story and what is going on to help them figure out the part that is tricking them
Reread
Skip the tricky word and finish the sentence, then reread to see if they can know the word that tricked them
Find a "Chunk" or part they know in a word - at is a sight word so when they come to pat and they don't know the word, talk about them knowing at and at /p/ to at to make pat
Have child retell the story - ask them to start at the beginning and tell you what happened in the story
Ask your child some of these questions (especially if they do not give any of these details in their retell of the story):
Who were the characters?
Where are they in the story? or Where did the story take place?
What happened first, next, last?
and LOTS MORE
